Pears (Baby Food)

Not only are we still in shock as we consider that we have an infant in our home, but we are also in shock... or should I say awe, at just how much this little human consumes!!  That's right!  Samuel is a hungry boy!  In order to help save a few pennies and get Samuel's belly full, I decided to make him some baby food.  Here's a look at preparing pears for my Little Bean!

  • Step 1: Get yourself some pears.  I purchased a 5 lb bag from Sam's Club for $4.98.
  • Step 2: Peel and dice your pears to into small chunks.
  • Step 3: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil.  Place steamer basket into the pot and add pears.  Steam until tender.
  • Step 4: Place pears in a blender or food processor and puree until smooth.
  • Step 5: Fill ice cube trays with pureed pears.  Place in freezer.
  • Step 6: Once frozen, transfer pear cubes into a freezer bag.  Store in freezer until ready to use.
  • Step 7:  When ready to use.  Remove the desired amount of pear cubes.  Microwave for 15-25 seconds until soft.  May need to mash the pears a little with a fork.
  • Step 8:  Serve as is or add other yummy food, like mashed bananas.
